Children's Film Festival

Turtle Bay Exploration Park is proud to present The Children's Film Festival as part of 2010 Sundial Film Festival.  Themed films will be shown in three different locations throughout Turtle Bay Exploration Park, the Visitor Center Theater, Zubie's classroom and the Millhouse at Paul Bunyan's Forest Camp.  Each set of films will be shown three times throughout the day.  Show times at 10 a.m., Noon and 2 p.m.  Movie themed activities compliment the showings, including flip books, zoetropes, and, as always with Family Second Saturday events, face painting!  Admission is FREE for Members and FREE with Park admission!

Three unlikely friends set out on a journey to find the Dreaded Ghost of Captain LeRouge whose ship was lost in the Louisiana bayou over two hundred years ago. What they find is true friendship and the adventure of a lifetime.

MY HOMEWORK ATE MY DOG (20 MINUTES) - Crystal Page, Director
A modern tale about the boy who cries wolf.  Lyle Licketti lies constantly.  When his homework comes to life, he must persuade his disbelieving class to flee before the monster consumes them, like it did his dog.  One thing stands in the way, his logical third grade teacher…Mrs. Cee.

THE FIREFLY AND THE STARS (7 MINUTES) - Light Bug Productions, LLC
Out of the savannah from Venezuela comes a bright little classic animated tale about a tiny firefly who wants to dance and play with the other glowing fireflies but is rejected because she is different.  Convinced her light doesn’t measure up, it takes the guidance of a friendly old squirrel, the caring of a mama bird, and a baby bird mistaking her for a fallen star to open her up to her own true worth.

WALKING WITH GRANDPA (3 MINUTES) - Holly Thorstad, Director
What do an old man and a little girl have in common?  A whole lot of nothing - at least that's what Grandpa thinks.  Near the opposite ends of their lives, these two find they are linked together by imagination.

EL SALON MEXICO (13 MINUTES) - Paul Glickman, Director
A fantasy, set in Mexico in the 1800's and woven into the musical composition by Aaron Copland.  It is the story of a very young campesino who, along with his burro and rooster, sneaks out of the house one night to see a fiesta for the very first time.

THE HAPPY DUCKLING (9 MINUTES) - Gili Dolev, Director
A animated adventure set in a pop-up book world.  Accompanied by a whimsical socre, the film follows the antics of a young boy in his struggles against a stacking duck!  In this pop-up book world, expect the unexpected.  Surprises aplenty behind every flap opened and every tab pulled.

MILLHOUSE - PAUL BUNYAN'S FOREST CAMP

THE RIDDLE IN A BOTTLE (30 MINUTES) - SISBRO STUDIOS, LLC
A Sister and brother team, called The Riddle Solvers, must solve a mysterious riddle about the ocean, with help from sea turtle, tide pool animals, frogs and a one-legged singing pirate.  Featuring vivid underwater wildlife footage and original music from Laura and Robert Sams.

THE PLASTIC PERILS OF THE PACIFIC (5 MINUTES) - Carlene Strathmann, Director
An animated film about the dangers posed to animals by plastic waste in our oceans.  Our hero, a neurotic red crab, finds his paradise under assault by the intrusion of a water bottle.  He undertakes a fantastic journey through the beautiful realm of a coral reef meeting and helping other sea life along the way.

TURTLE BAY ANIMAL PROGRAM (25 MINUTES)
Enjoy a fun and education program presented by the Turtle Bay Animal Staff.  See some of our animals up close and personal.
