Campers ages 7-10 are invited to join Turtle Bay educators and volunteers for another season of Discovery Camps!
Please see the following camp descriptions and links to general information and registration forms.
Monday – Friday, June 12-16, 2017 – Spy Camp:
Calling all sleuths! A case file has been left at Turtle Bay! Help piece together the case and identify the suspects. Campers will solve a Turtle Bay mystery by analyzing physical evidence from a crime scene, experimenting with chemistry, and even building a miniature getaway car! Do you have what it takes to solve the crime?
Registration Deadline is May 26, 2017
Monday – Friday, June 19-23, 2017 – Icky Sticky Science:
Join us for a tour of the grosser things in life and nature, from boogers and mucus to weird plant and animal adaptations. Conduct fun and messy science experiments that will have you saying “eew!” Campers will learn the science and purpose behind each nasty phenomenon and leave with a newfound appreciation of the world's weird—but necessary—processes.
Registration Deadline is June 2, 2017
Monday – Friday, July 17-21, 2017 – Maker Camp:
Innovations, creations, and workstations – this week, campers will take matters into their own hands and construct machines, build circuits, and design innovative tools! Focused on hands-on self-led activities and problem solving, we are so excited to offer our very first Maker Camp. We will provide the glue, tape, cardboard, and spaghetti noodles; what will you make of them?
Registration Deadline is June 30, 2017
Summer Camp is available for members at $160/week and non-members at $180/week. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day with the option of extended care for an additional fee.
Looking for camps the rest of the summer? Check out Whiskeytown Environmental School Camps!
Turtle Bay Exploration Park and Whiskeytown Environmental School are beginning a new camp partnership in 2017. For the first year, we have coordinated schedules so certain ages of children can attend a full summer by attending both programs. For information about WES Camp, please visit: www.shastacoe.org/wes
Spring Break Single-Day Camp
Registration Deadline is now CLOSED
Tuesday, April 11, 2017 - Magnificent Matter:
Solids, liquids, and gases make up most of the “stuff” in our world. But what if something doesn’t fit any of those categories? Discover strange substances and more as we look at some magnificent matter. Watch as dry ice defies all expectations, and make things melt and freeze without using heat!
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 - Energy in Action:
Why do metal spoons melt ice cream better than plastic spoons? How do solar panels actually work? And why can you “feel” the beat of music? Campers will explore the different types of energy that nature and people use every day to make things go. If you want to “see” sound waves, make art with light, and harness the power of heat, then this camp is for you. We hope you have enough energy for all of this learning!
Thursday, April 13, 2017 - The Fantastic Forces:
You don’t have to be a superhero to use forces… All you need is your thinking cap! Learn about the forces, big and small, that shape our world. Make an electromagnetic train, defy gravity with Bernoulli’s Principle, and learn about our world-famous Sundial Bridge!
Single-Day Camp is available for members at $40/day and non-members at $50/day. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day.
