Explore beautiful, expertly crafted replicas of indigenous regalia and daily use items created by renowned scholar and former Yosemite curator Craig Bates. Bates was taken under the wing of elder and culture bearer Henry Azbill (Mechoopda Maidu) at a young age, making and dancing his own regalia with Miwok and Maidu dancers. Most of the items on display are based on actual museum pieces and personal items representing late 19th or early 20th century styles from Native Northern California tribes, such as the Wintu, on whose land we reside.
