Recreation: The Great Outdoors and More!

Recreation: The Great Outdoors and More!
c. 1900-1945

Recreation is an essential facet of the human experience. This is an ever-evolving field,  and each individual has different means by which they will seek to enjoy recreation. Here in Shasta County, we are incredibly lucky to be located in a central location that gives us access to so many recreational opportunities. People travel from all over the West Coast to experience the many parks, lakes, rivers, and mountains that are right on our doorstep. The U.S. Forest website describes the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Forest as “a mecca for outdoor activities including camping, fishing, swimming, paddling, boating, backpacking, horseback-riding, mountain biking, off-roading, and hunting.”

This exhibit has been curated to display some fantastic recreational items we have right here in our Turtle Bay Collection. We strived to include different types of recreation for everyone, ranging from cameras to guns. Displaying well over 50 different artifacts, the Mill Building is filled with fun information on all the recreational pieces. Whether you are an avid fisherman, enjoy camping, like skiing the mountains, or enjoy vintage photography from the early 1900s, we have something everyone can enjoy. Join us at Turtle Bay to see beautiful skis from 1945, a National Silvo 1937 Metal Electric Mandolin, and much more in this recreational history exhibit.
