We are proud to open our Museum doors with our lights dimmed, minimal sounds, and a relaxed atmosphere. Sensory Hour is an event for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or Sensory Processing sensitivities and their families to experience the Museum at their own pace. Our goal is to make Sensory Hour a comfortable environment for individuals with a variety of sensory differences. Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you have, and if necessary, direct you to a quiet space that provides a chance to cool down and take a break. Families are welcome to stay the remainder of the day to explore the rest of the Park. Participants are always welcome to bring their own fidgets, ear protection, and other sensory resources to the Park. This program is free, however pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Thank you to Josh Barker Real Estate for presenting Sensory Hour!
New! - Sensory Backpacks
Do you have a family member with sensory needs but can’t make it to one of our Sensory Hour dates? Come visit Turtle Bay and check out one of our Sensory Backpacks!
Sensory Backpacks are small backpacks packed with tools designed to help both children and adults with Autism, ADHD, or other sensory processing needs regulate their nervous systems while they visit louder, crowded, or new environments. To help make Turtle Bay more accessible to all, we have a small number of these packs available for rent at the Museum Front Desk during the Park’s open hours.
These backpacks are free to rent (an ID/Driver’s License is held) and include the following items within them:
Sensory Guides for the Museum & Forest Camp
A Pair of Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Several Fidget Toys
A Sensory Stuffed Animal
A Pair of Breakaway Binoculars
Plant & Animal Scavenger Hunt Cards
Have questions about the backpacks? Reach out to our team at: info@turtlebay.org
