Insects represent some of the planet's most bizarre – yet familiar – and enchanting life forms. Some can be as intricately delicate as a butterfly, while others can be as tough and gnarly as some beetles.
The community eagerly anticipated the Turtle Bay Auction, and this year's event did not disappoint. The theme was "Off to The Races," and guests arrived dressed in their finest Kentucky Derby-inspired ensembles. They were greeted by a stunning display of decorations that transported them to Churchill Downs.
Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding, CA, partners with Coleman Fish Hatchery every year to raise and release chinook salmon to the Sacramento River as a part of the Head Start Program. This is one of the many ways Turtle Bay takes active part in conservation efforts for local wildlife.
Grey foxes live throughout North America from Southern Canada to Central America and Northern South America. They like all different types of habitat from deserts to forest, but prefers areas with lots of brush and trees. Eating mostly small mammals like mice, rabbits and voles, also insects, berries, nuts, and other fruits and vegetables they find. Grey fox are known to live 6-10 years in the wild; 15 years or more in captivity.
With Turtle Bay’s Adopt-an-Animal program, you can choose an animal to be a part of your family. Your gift will play an important role in feeding and supporting these cute and curious critters under the care of trained Turtle Bay staff. This is Cricket, our featured animal this week for the Adopt-An-Animal program. Cricket was part of a barn owl conservation release program. He was held back as an education animal. He arrived at Turtle Bay at 8-weeks old. The trainers named him Cricket for the chirping noise barn owls make when they meet each other at the nest site. Cricket is one of the most reliable animals we use in our educational shows at Turtle Bay.
This is Loki, our featured animal this week for the Adopt-An-Animal program. Loki was found as an orphan in the spring of 2011 at only about 4-weeks old. Being an invasive species, he could not be released back into the wild. He joined us here at Turtle Bay at 6-weeks old and was raised by our animal trainers.
Today at Turtle Bay Exploration Park, we’ll be offering a special animal show highlighting venomous animals found here in the North State, including rattlesnakes, scorpions, and tarantulas!
