Imagine loading up your mule’s pack saddle for a trip home from the store or hitching up a team of horses for a not-so-quick trip to grandma’s house. Now, imagine that on an industrial scale. Shasta County as we know it was built on animal power. This exhibition guest-curated by Collections Volunteer Robert Harris using artifacts from Turtle Bay’s Permanent Collection explores how our region’s first industries were dependent on horses, mules, donkeys, and oxen and what it took to harness that power and care for these animals.
