Volunteer Spotlight: Katie May

Volunteer Spotlight: Katie May

March 16, 2023

Each month, we are excited to introduce a new Volunteer Spotlight! Our dedicated, hardworking volunteers make Turtle Bay a Wonder-full place for families and travelers to visit. We could not provide all of the educational programs, special events, and museum exhibits without the time and energy of our volunteers!

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is Katie May! Katie has been assisting with Turtle Bay’s education department, membership mailing, and special events for about a year, but her time on our campus stems back much further. From 1985-1995, Katie volunteered at the Carter House Natural Science Museum before the opening of Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp and the Turtle Bay Museum.

Katie’s appreciation for Turtle Bay stems from the history and culture that the Park brings to the community. She also noted the unique connections and learning opportunities about animals that Wildlife Woods provides for visitors.

When asked what her favorite part about being a volunteer is, Katie shared her many experiences getting to know other volunteers from different walks of life with new perspectives. “Every day is different, and I get to learn so many new things.”  Katie also explains that volunteering at Turtle Bay is flexible, as volunteers are able to schedule themselves for events as they please. Our volunteer program allows individuals to experience all areas of the Park and commit to things that interest them.

“I wish people would volunteer their time more. If you can’t give your money, you can give your time,” Katie says.

Thank you Katie May, for all that you do for Turtle Bay. Your uplifting, positive personality is so appreciated!
