Turtle Bay’s West Coast Biennial Art Competition and Exhibition is back for its ninth year! This guest favorite is a wonderful way to see a wide variety of artwork from contemporary West Coast artists. 

This year, the Founder of The Art Hunger and Arts Director for Viva Downtown Redding, Karlo Henry, is our juror. He will choose between 30 and 50 artworks for the exhibition and award cash prizes of up to $3,000 at the exhibition opening on Friday, January 29, 2027.

Artists currently living in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska are eligible to enter up to three artworks created within three years of the November 6, 2026 submission deadline.

Karlo Henry Velazquez Fernandez is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and cultural organizer whose work bridges painting, design, and community-driven creative initiatives. 

Born in Barcelona, shaped by life across Mexico and the United States, his practice explores identity, emotion, and connection through visual storytelling influenced by surrealism, cultural symbolism, and contemporary pop culture. 

As the founder of The Art Hunger and Arts Director for Viva Downtown Redding, Karlo is dedicated not only to creating meaningful work, but also to building platforms that expand access, visibility, and opportunity for artists. Through both his personal practice and cultural leadership, he is committed to strengthening creative communities and using art as a catalyst for connection, collaboration, and change.
