Step back 252 million years to the dawn of the Triassic Period, when much of what is now Shasta County was submerged under a vast ocean. Discover fossils from Mesozoic marine animals and reptiles, including Shasta County’s very own ichthyosaur, Shastasaurus pacificus, and learn how early discoveries by paleontologists like James Perrin Smith put the region on the fossil map.
